I have a JVC gy hm 7oou camera, with battery ,lens and wireless receiver it weighs 9.4 lbs. I would like to purchase the Glidecam Smooth Shooter Support System Kit with the 4000 pro.I was hoping that some forum members might have some insight to help with my decision. Any problems that I may have or will this work well with my camera.
Thanks
Shane

Hi Shane,

9.4 lbs is within the operating specification of the both the Glidecam Smooth Shooter and 4000 Pro (maximum 10 lbs) However, the JVC GY HM700u is a shoulder mounted camera setup and it does required an 'on-board' battery (i.e. Anton Bauer Dionic)which increases the weight above the 10 maximum, unless you do some major customizing, even then it is not the best option. The Glidecam X-22 System is the best option for this shoulder mount camera.

The Glidecam 2000 and 4000 are designed more for the hand-held camera market.

Thanks Tom,
The total weight for the camera with everything (battery included) is 9.4 lbs. The X 22 system is out of my price range at the moment. will the 4000 pro system still work?

If you can keep the total 'top' camera weight under 10 lbs, within the operating specifications, you are clear to go.

Keep us posted on your progress, it would be great to see some photos of your rig once you get it going.

I would suggest that you go with the HD4000, over the Glidecam 4000 Pro, as it is easier to setup and balance and has a camera-mounting platform with a quick-release, no-tools, drop-on camera plate, allowing you to quickly attach or remove your camera. It also has ergonomic, control knobs that allow quick, precise adjustment of the top stage’s back and forth, and side-to-side movement. Just to name a few...
